SENZ is over for another year

We had a great time, chilly but thats CHCH in winter! All the classes went well and everyone seemed really happy. Shop did quite well, we had a different range from the other stores... we had Collections, Dusty Attic, Tim Holtz, Bo Bunny, Kand Co, 7Gypsies, Stampendous and Darkroom Door and lots of spray inks.

Finally had a bit of spare time to scrap a few of the photos so have done a quickneasy page. Managed to find a CraftCo paper of the actual wharf at Moeraki - perfect! There are a few good papers from the South Island in their range check out www.craftco.co.nz for more. The font on the letter is from the new Songbird Cricut cartridge, the F is exactly the shape of Fleur's restaurant. 'nother perfect...

Friday 26th Feb Dunedin to Pounawea

Breakfast at the Stables at Larnach Castle. Great place to stay, bed/breakfast and entry to the castle for two for $155...it was fun to meet up with overseas tourists too and find out where they were from etc. The bricks on the floor were imported from France and despite being over 130 years old still look new.

Beach on the coast road between Dunedin and Taieri Mouth - can imagine it would be a great place for a swim in summer.

Kaka Point looking towards Nugget Point lighthouse. We didn't have time to go to the Lighthouse, next time maybe!

Sunday 28th Feb

Sunrise at Pounwea - view from outside our cabin at 6.55am just after Civil Defense knocked on the door to evacuate us because of the tsunami threat!

Bugger the tsunami, we got evacuated from Pounawea and were send back to Owaka to higher ground.

We were allowed back later in the morning so got the Collage class almost done before we were re-evacuated around 11.30am. At that stage the weekend was abandoned! Around 2pm we went back to Pounawea to pack up but let me tell you we were very nervous about it. The spring tide was very high and you could see the surges coming in and out and down the river. We couldn't get out of there quick enough!

Later in the afternoon we took off down to one of the waterfalls...

I can imagine these would be gorgeous with more water in them!

Day Five Monday 1st March Owaka to The Catlins and Southland

The absolute highlight of the trip - if you are ever visiting the South then this place is a must! The coast is wild and rugged and the rainforest is dotted with waterfalls. In some places the forest goes right down to the sea, so you can imagine what NZ would have looked like before people arrived.

Pics from our recent camping trip up north with the Millingtons. Paper/Diecuts is from the Q1 Offshore collection. Title is stamped and I used Kaiser rubons on the photos. I am into hand journalling at the moment so the lines on the paper are great for that.

Trip to the mount Dec 26-31

We decided after spending almost an hour trying to find a park, then each other, then getting hot feet, that we adults didn't like the beach on a stinking hot day! But the girlies loved it!

The stamps are the latest from Hero Arts Antique Engravings CL383 and coloured in with Watercolour pencils and cut out.

Paper is from Karen Foster.

I am teaching down at the Hastings Rubber Stamps camp at Pounawea in the Catlins in late Feb so if you are thinking of coming down I will be teaching two classes: an Opals class and a Collage Class (the samples are further down below in an earlier post). There are still vacancies available go to www.hasrub.co.nz to book.
We will be learning how to use a host of products and techniques (I like to teach everyone at least one new technique with every card we make).
With the Opals class we will learn how to use Opals (a kind of thick embossing powder) with Chipboard (from Collections, Scrapware and cutting our own with the Cuttlebug), with stamps and with metal on brads and letters etc.
In the Amazing Metallics Collage class we will be learning how to use Glimmer Mist, Lumiere Paints, metallic rubons, Gold Opals, Stamps, Tim Holtz Distress Ink pads and All Purpose ink.
You can either make a card or use this as a 6x6 canvas.

November Creations - Collage Cards

I love playing about with metallic inks and paints...I am teaching this at the next Auckland papercraft day.

Inspiration can come from all sorts of places. The idea for the stripes came from driving through Mt Eden, Circus Circus as these same stripes and eyelet holes on the outside.

This was a scraplifted page from the latest Bo Bunny Catalogue, photo taken nearly 20 years ago!

I have been playing around with the new Cuttlebug folders, this one is a 5x7 one, and its quite big so instead of making a card I did a standup. I painted the numbers with h2os and glitter glue. and used Kaiser Christmas paper.

Well we have set the date for next year's SENZ, CHCH 16-18th July.
Should be good, SBO are coming and bringing Nic and a few of the CHCH ones are coming The Paper Peacock, who won best exhibit last time, and no doubt Montarga will be there trying to win that prize off them! Suzanne has some ideas for Create to challenge them too - we will go for small but stylish!

Off to make Chirstmas Cards this afternoon for a class tomorrow night. Will take piccies and put them on later.

We have our sale this week to co incide with the Craft Fair. Already we have had a big sale today from someone from Aussie associated with it. Just as well I have ordered lots of new product from the states.

SENZ is over for another year

It was great to meet up with so many friends and customers at SENZ this year. It all went off pretty well, with no major disasters...the eftpos machine was good, we only ran out of change once and most of the classes were good. Jill G-G's classes were a highlight, she is such a cruisy lady, she fitted in with us lot very well!

She loved my house, here she is enjoying the view!

The Crop Night was good too, and thanks to all those ladies that made an effort to dress up. We raised around $1000 for KidzFirst Hospital from the Raffle and Crop Night tickets. His Worship the Mayor of Manukau came along, what a nice guy, definitely gets my vote for SuperCity Mayor!

Donald and I are trying to find a venue for SENZ2010, its tricky trying to find a suitable date and venue that doesn't clash with the multitude of stamp and scrap camps that are on these days plus Dunkleys shows, and Craft Fairs...speaking of the Craft and Quilt Fair in Hamilton next month, I was thinking of going, but there are only 4 papercraft exhibits, and one of those only sells Warehouse type stuff, so probably I won't bother, as sewing and quilting, although admirable pursuits just don't pull my strings enough to pay the $16 odd entry fee...

Been to Blenheim recently to farewell one of my favourite Great Aunt's, Joan Work. She lived down the street from us and was like another Grandmother. Her cooking was legendary so one of my challenges is to do a creative cookbook with her recipes in it and some photos of her and us. Bo Bunny has done a Recipe range which might work quite well, and there are some Basic Grey cooking theme papers out soon too.

Create is closed today because I am sick at home with a cold and Kathy didn't have her keys, so sorry if anyone went along and found us closed. Oh well, we are open late night Friday so you can shop then...and I am in Hamilton staying with the Crumps at the weekend so if anyone wants me to open up Sunday before 2pm I can do that.

Have been invited to teach at Wilma Sharp's Pounawea weekend down in the Catlins next February. Really looking forward to that, I have'nt been down that way before. I am teaching an Opals class and an Amazing Metallics class. If anyone wants to book in email philma@xtra.co.nz it sounds like a great weekend, Wilma will be teaching and so will that mad Aussie Sharon, who had better watch herself, as Donald and I are looking for revenge for the mad stuff she did at SENZ08.

The next Auckland Create Funday is coming up on the 23rd of August at Mt Albert, have 12 ladies booked in so far and 6 vacancies. Will do some demos etc with the Wizard and Spellbinders and a few other things such as Opals. Ideally I would like to get the Hamilton store handed over to someone else and do something up here in Auckland. So if anyone wants to give Scrapbook retailing a go give me a call. The shop is ideally located and could be rebranded, revitalised and restocked...

I did these the other day for a Heritage Class on Wednesday. Used a Kaiser Kit and liked the fact that everything you need is in there, other than a few extras like the photo corners.

Here's what you can do with it...

• Spray on projects to encourage migration of any water-based ink• Spray on inked stamp for watercolor effects• Mix with water-based ink and then spray on project for wonderful background effects• Use with Tsukineko's Fantastix™ applicators to encourage blending

I am going to use this in my next stamping class on the 4th of June with the new Rubbadubbadoo stamp above.

The other new product that looks fun is the Heidi Swapp Invisibles paper - you ink it and the inbuilt resist comes through. Messy play is what I like!
